Raymond Berbiguier est né à Marseille en 1935. Sa scolarité est chaotique et c’est en candidat libre qu’il s’inscrit aux cours du soir des Beaux-Arts de Marseille.
Il a 20 ans quand il choisit la filière publicité plus prometteuse de rémunération que celle d’artiste. Toutefois en 1966 il abandonne la publicité pour se consacrer uniquement à la peinture et
au dessin. Jusqu’à aujourd’hui sa diffusion s’effectuera au travers de réseaux plus qu’au moyen d’expositions traditionnelles. Avec dans les périodes de vaches maigres le recours à de multiples
petits boulots pour pouvoir vivre. Ce système de diffusion très particulier fera que s’il réussit à vendre à nombre de collectionneurs il ne sera jamais réellement reconnu. La production de
Raymond Berbiguier est étroitement liée à ses perspectives économiques. Il opère chez lui dans un espace réduit et de ce fait choisit le plus souvent de travailler sur papier car ce support offre
comme avantage d’être peu coûteux et de format limité. Ce travail est essentiellement lié à la structure des choses et consiste à se saisir d’une forme, le plus souvent un visage ou un corps, à
l’étudier, la scruter, à en repérer l’arrangement des parties pour ensuite en démonter l’ordonnance. Raymond Berbiguier superpose les angles de vue, déconstruit puis reconstruit la forme
